Investigators are looking into the cause of a house fire in Byron.
Firefighters responded to the scene on Boler Road between Wayne Road and Byron Baseline Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Earl Rutherford was driving to work when he called 9-1-1 after spotting smoke coming from the home.
“I got out of my car and then went around to the back door and knocked on the door and yelled to see if anyone was inside,” he said. “No one came to the door, so by that time the police got here and he did the same thing, checked, and then just stood back and watched the fire get worse and then within five minutes, the fire department came.”
The fire has been extinguished. No injuries have been reported.
It’s believed the fire may have started in the basement. London police media constable Sandasha Bough said the cause of the blaze remains unclear.
“It’s still under investigation and once the fire inspector is able to attend and look into the fire, he or she will be able to determine a possible cause,” she said.
Boler Road was closed between Wayne Road and Byron Baseline Road for several house, but has since reopened.
