Vegreville, Alta. man drowns in the North Saskatchewan River

A 45-year-old man from Vegreville, Alta. is dead after being swept into the water while fishing in the North Saskatchewan River.

Two Hills County RCMP were called to an area north of the hamlet of Hairy Hill, Alta. at around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Mounties, including the RCMP helicopter, Alberta Fish and Wildlife Officers and members of the fire departments from Two Hills, Hairy Hill and Willingdon, Alta. all aided in the search.

At around 5 p.m., the man’s body was found downstream and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mounties said there is no indication of foul play or criminal responsibility.

The man’s name will not be released.
