No charges laid after shoppers discover infant left in a hot SUV

Loud crying in a south London parking lot alerted passing shoppers to a three-month-old baby left in a hot car Thursday morning.

John and his wife spotted the infant girl in an SUV at around 10:30 a.m., in a parking lot on Wellington Road South.

“There was no adult or anything in the car,” John explained.

“So my wife tried the door, and she opened it, and then at that time I called 911 because somebody left their baby in the car. [She] calmed down when my wife started talking to her.”

When the child’s father returned to the car, John said he confronted him.

“I’m like ‘buddy, you left your baby in the car in the heat’, and he didn’t seem to think it was a big deal or anything.”

Constable Michelle Romano said when London Police arrived on the scene, there wasn’t need for further medical attention.

“The parents were spoken to by police, and it’s being followed up by assisting agencies,” Romano told AM980.

No charges will be laid in the incident.

“The more alarming thing is he left the baby in the car alone, but he also left it unlocked,” said John.

“Anyone could have come and kidnapped this baby too.”

Police are reminding people about the dangers and serious health risks of leaving children and animals in hot vehicles.
