The City of Regina has its first case of Dutch elm disease in the north end of the city.

The diseased tree is on the 200 block of Wells Street and the city is removing the tree to prevent the disease from spreading.

Possession of elm firewood is prohibited by provincial regulation. Residents should not transport elm firewood into the city from areas outside the city, nor should they store any elm firewood on their property.

Pruning elm trees is prohibited from April 1 to August 31 under provincial regulation.

Regina has lost 94 tress to the disease since 1981.
