Friends went off the air in 2004 but many fans of the popular sitcom have hoped to see a renewal.
Many ’90s shows like Will & Grace and Twin Peaks are being revived but Matthew Perry has shut down the idea of a Friends reboot.

“We do a whole series, we come back, and nobody cares about it. So if anybody asks me, I’m gonna say ‘No.’ The thing is: We ended on such a high. We can’t beat it. Why would we go and do it again?” Perry said.
Perry is currently starring in The End of Longing, an off-Broadway show he wrote that debuted in London last year.
He told Variety that he’s ready to let go of his Friends character, Chandler Bing, and move away from the sitcom humour he’s become known for.
“People still see me as Chandler, the goofy, sarcastic guy, and this is not that. I don’t think that anybody’s out there thinking, ‘I’ll write this for Perry,’ other than me,” Perry revealed. “So I did that, and I think probably the next thing I do will be written by me, too. In the second half of my life, I don’t want to do your standard sitcom television. I want to do edgier, darker, dramatic stuff.”

This isn’t the first time the idea of a Friends adaptation, starring Perry, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc and David Schwimmer, has been turned down.
In May, Aniston revealed on a podcast that a modern-day Friends would just be the cast on their cellphones, so that revival may not have been very interesting in the first place.
“Now you have a computer, a television and a phone. There’s no room,” Aniston said. “We were jokingly saying that if Friends was created today, you would have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into iPhones. There would be no actual episodes or conversations.”
Friends ran from September 1994 to May 2004.
