The Harry Potter franchise has finished but fans have turned their attention to making a prequel film about Lord Voldemort, the central main antagonist in J. K. Rowling’s series of Harry Potter novels and films.
Warner Bros have reached an agreement with the film start up Tryangle Films over the unofficial prequel, providing it is only released on YouTube ‘in a nonprofit way,’ according to Polygon.
The film’s director spoke with Warner Bros.— which owns the movie rights to the Harry Potter franchise — and they gave the project the go-ahead.
Voldemort: Origins of The Heir director Gianmaria Pezzato confirmed to Polygon: “We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros. who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign.”
Earlier this year, Tryangle Films set up a Kickstarter page in an attempt to raise funds for their project Voldemort: Origins Of The Heir, which is a film based on Tom Marvolo Riddle’s life before he became Lord Voldemort.
An official trailer for the unofficial movie made its way onto YouTube on May 28 and quickly gained millions of views.
Instead of a worldwide box office release, this one will be available only on YouTube.

The movie intends to tell the story of how one Tom Marvolo Riddle goes from a slightly disturbed but highly talented young wizard to the strange-looking villain Lord Voldemort.
Pezzato went on to explain the inspiration behind the movie to Polygon, adding: “We wondered, “What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back?”
“A lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: The rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.”
Harry Potter fans took to Twitter to share their excitement about the new film.
With the legal obstacles out of the way, director Pezzato and co-director Stefano Prestia hope to have the movie released by the end of the year.
