A driver survived a crash on the Mexico-Puebla motorway on Sunday (May 21), after his truck‘s brakes failed and the vehicle reached speeds of 160 kilometres per hour .

Mexican Federal Police video shows law enforcement following the vehicle as it picks up speed going downhill, until it reaches an emergency hard shoulder enhanced with speed friction.

The truck can be seen crashing to a halt in a cloud of smoke, and as the police approach the truck, the driver climbs out through the large paper rolls that have fallen out.

Police noticed a truck speeding and emitting smoke around 7 p.m. on the kilometre 47 of the Mexico-Puebla motorway, and followed it for 10 kilometres to where the special hard shoulder was located.

The driver was on his way to Mexico City from the eastern coast city of Veracruz, carrying 15 tonnes of paper rolls.
