UPDATE: Man charged in lengthy Saskatchewan First Nation standoff

One man was taken into custody on a Saskatchewan First Nation after police responded to a possible standoff on Friday.

Loon Lake RCMP said they received a call Friday morning that a man allegedly armed with a gun entered a home on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

At the time, police said they believed he was still inside the home and didn’t know how many people might be inside.

Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation School and Ernie Studer School enacted hold-and-secure procedures due to their proximity to the home. An arrangement was made late in the afternoon to allow students to leave both schools safely.

As of 10 p.m. CT, Loon Lake RCMP advised that the incident had been resolved.

Police officials asked people to respect all barriers until they are removed.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is approximately 310 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
