Regina paddler Kia Byers is currently on the road or in the water oversees as part of CanoeKayak Canada’s teams that will be representing Canada in competition this summer. Kia will look to be one of the athletes on Team Canada for thew 2012 Olympics in London, England. Here's Byers own words as she prepares to compete in Hungary:

I arrived in Szeged, Hungary, after 15 hours of travel, yesterday afternoon. The trip actually went by quickly considering the time and distance, I was surprised. Sometimes the day seems to last forever.
When we arrived at our hotel we got some great surprises, the hotel is newly renovated and holds a spa, bowling ally and a water park, much like the West Edmonton mall. Without the wave pool but it does have a funky smelling mud pool … we'll see if we test it out.
One of the biggest challenges we have to overcome is the time change, it is 8 hours from Regina, and we start racing on Friday. Napping can be seem SO great in the afternoon but end up being killer in the middle of the night. So after we checked into our rooms we went for a little jog, to stretch the legs, and came back to our rooms.To avoid napping before supper we headed straight for the water slides. And I just want to say they sure know how to make a water park! We had a ton of fun. There was even a water slide that you took an elevator to get to the top.
Supper was delicious they served CREAM PUFFS !!! What more really needs to be said.
Today, Tuesday May 25th, began with my room mate and I sleeping so late we almost misssed breakfast, but my body sure enjoyed the 12 hours of sleep!! After breakfast we headed to the course for our first two training sessions of the trip. We unloaded all our boats from our sponsor Nelo and headed out onto the water in + 28 sunshine and dead calm conditions. It was fantastic.
That is about it … I am heading to a meeting to find out what events I will be entered in this weekend. And I hope everything is going good back at home! It is my favorite place to be.
