A controlled fire on Thursday afternoon will mean heavy smoke along Hamilton’s west harbour.

The Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) will be conducting the controlled burn at Princess Point in the Cootes Paradise Nature Sanctuary.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Nick Kondrat, the RBG’s Manager of Communications, describes the burn as “an important means of preserving the threatened tallgrass prairie and oak savannah” at Princess Point.

There is no access to Princess Point Trail on Thursday, but a safe viewing area is in place for visitors to witness the controlled burn.
