The University of New Brunswick (UNB) Varsity Reds won the 2017 University Cup with a 5-3 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday.
Both U Sports teams blanked their opponents in the semifinals on Saturday to earn spots in the gold medal game in front of 3,374 hockey fans in Fredericton, N.B.

Cam Braes recorded four goals for the Varsity Reds and Mark Simpson added another.
Jordan Fransoo, Connor Gay and Kohl Bauml scored for Saskatchewan.
Huskies goalie Jordan Cooke made 31 saves while Etienne Marcoux kept 18 out of the net for UNB.

Varsity Reds claimed their second consecutive Canadian university men’s hockey championship with the win.
The Acadia Axemen won the bronze medal game 7-3 against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men on Sunday.
