Kids were in for a treat at the public library in Pointe-Claire as they not only got a chance to let their imagination run loose with Lego toys but also learned how to make stop-motion films using cellphones and tablets.
The workshop was hosted by stop-motion filmmaker Marc-André Caron who has transformed Lego toys into a teaching tool.
“They start to solve problems, be creative and do their own stuff without the help of anyone, so they can be proud of themselves.”
Caron is a teacher who has used Lego in schools to teach kids about various subject matters.
“You can do math, French, English, even science with Lego,” Caron said. “And today, my full-time job is to teach teachers how to do robotics in class with Lego stuff.”
For parents like John Carey, the event is an opportunity to offer an activity for his daughter that stimulates the imagination.
“Were always looking for things that my daughter might be interested in and might pursue,” Carey said. “We’ve been here about 10 minutes and she is already planning to do her own movie at home.”
