January is not exactly a popular month to get married but on Sunday, hundreds of brides-to-be packed Kelowna’s Prospera Place to plan for the big day.
Close to 1,000 people were expected to come through the doors for the second annual Okanagan Bridal Expo.
Organizations say it is one-stop shopping for anyone planning to tie the knot.
From wedding planners to cake decorators to photographers, the event is designed to help plan or book an entire wedding all under one roof.
The event featured Jane Dayus-Hinch, the host of the television show Wedding SOS, who says that this will be a busy year for weddings, especially in the Okanagan, organizers add.
“This is the year of the wedding,” Dayus-Hinch said. “2013 is a huge year for weddings because of the economic climate. People have been waiting to get married financially.”
“The Okanagan, as I call it is the Hawaii of Canada, we are now the top wedding destination in Canada,” said bridal expo organizer Bethany Armstrong. “Our destination brides are from all over Canada and are coming here from the United States. It’s becoming the place to be.”
