Fatal truck crash in Melfort, Sask.

MELFORT, Sask. – One boy is dead and two teens are injured after a single vehicle crash last night in Melfort.

Around 11:05 p.m., Mounties were called to a scene involving a 2005 GMC Canyon on Shadd Street in Melfort.

RCMP say the truck sheared off a power pole and came to rest against a tree.

Emergency medical services and members of the fire department extricated three occupants who were taken to hospital in Melfort.

A 16-year-old male passenger succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

A 14-year-old girl was transferred to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon in serious condition. Another 14-year-old girl received treatment for minor injuries.

The 16-year-old male driver did not require hospitalization.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist examined the scene and no charges have been laid at this time.

Mounties say the weather was clear but roads were icy at the time of the collision.

Melfort is approximately 160 km northeast of Saskatoon.
