PERTH, Australia – Gold miner Centamin PLC (TSX:CEE) says it has suspended operations at its Sukari mine in Egypt because of a dispute over fuel.
The company says the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. has filed an illegal claim for US$65 million worth of diesel fuel supplied from Dec. 2009 until January 2012.

Centamin says EGPC is refusing to supply additional diesel fuel to the Sukari gold mine until the amount is paid.
The Australian-based company says discussions to reinstate the flow of diesel fuel is ongoing, but fuel supplies have now reached critical levels.

Centamin says until the issue is resolved, it is suspending operations at Sukari and placing the mine on a care and maintenance routine.
The company‘s flagship mine is in the eastern desert of Egypt about 25 kilometres from the Red Sea coast.
