Montreal boy celebrates birthday on December 12

MONTREAL – He’ll have cake at school and his dad – who co-owns the St. Viateur Bagel store on Monkland Ave. – will supply his entire Grade 6 class with bagels.

No biggie, all kids turn 12 at some stage, but Giordano is turning 12 on 12-12-12, a very auspicious date, and one he won’t see again in this lifetime.

“I guess it means I’m a lucky kid,” said the preteen.

Having a birthday so close to Christmas, sometimes kids get shortchanged, but not this lucky fellow.

His family is making a big fuss on his big day with all those 12s in a row.

Giordano has asked for a new X-Box video game and he was surprised at school with a birthday cake (made by Sugar Rush Cakes).

He hopes there’s some lasagna for supper later, because that’s his favourite dish.

At Pierre de Coubertin School in Saint-Léonard, Giordano gets good marks and is “an all-around great kid” said principal Nicholas Katalisos.

The birthday boy likes reading and math, and riding his bike in the summer.

His favourite book is The Hobbit, and he hopes to see the movie version when it opens in theatres this week.

Giordano is too young to play the lottery, but his dad said he certainly will buy a ticket to take advantage of all that luck.

Asked what number he would pick for luck, Giordano chose 12, naturally.

“And, he was born at 12:20 p.m. so if you reverse the numbers it 2012,” said his proud dad, Johnny Azzue. “We never really thought about it when he was born in 2000 but as he got older we thought, wow.”
