UPDATE (8:50 a.m.): Georgia Street has now been re-opened.
Commuters are being warned to pack their patience this morning after a crash slowed traffic to a crawl in Downtown Vancouver.
Burrard Street is currently closed between Georgia and Robson after a car took out a lamp standard and brought down trolley wires around 4 a.m. The lamp standard was sheared off, but didn’t hit the ground because trolley wires caught it.
The damage to the car that caused the accident is relatively minor, but damage to the TransLink and city infrastructure is extensive.

A city worker told Global News this morning’s commute will be challenging as the closure is expected to last for hours and a new pole, traffic light and trolley wires have to be brought in.
Currently, traffic coming in from the Stanley Park Causeway into downtown Vancouver is being detoured onto Thurlow Street.
It’s expected the stretch of Burrard Street between Georgia and Alberni could be closed until 3 p.m. on Friday.
