Icy roads may have caused serious collision in northern Alberta

The driver of a tractor trailer was taken to an Edmonton-area hospital last week with serious injuries after a collision in northern Alberta.

Police said a crew cab pickup truck was travelling westbound on Highway 2, just west of the Athabasca Bridge towing a utility trailer which started to fish tail last Friday afternoon. The trailer went into the eastbound lane when it was hit by an oncoming tractor trailer.

The driver and only person in the tractor trailer suffered serious injuries and was taken to an Edmonton-area hospital.

The three adults and two children in the pickup truck weren’t injured.

Slave Lake RCMP said icy conditions may have been a factor in the crash.
