Woman foils attempted armed carjacking at Calgary mall by driving away

Calgary police are investigating an attempted carjacking at Marlborough Mall on Tuesday.

A woman told police she was inside her vehicle in the mall’s parking lot at around 11:30 p.m. when a man approached her to ask for the time.

“When she refused to speak to them, one of the men revealed a handgun while the other attempted to open her door,” a Wednesday news release said. “The woman drove away before they were able to enter her car.”

The suspects are described as:

  • Male approximately 6’2″ tall with a slim build, wearing camouflage pants, a camouflage jacket and a hoodie.
  • Male approximately 5’11” tall with a medium build, wearing a black and navy blue hoodie, glasses.

On Wednesday, police confirmed they believe the incident is likely connected to two armed robberies at Chinook Centre just an hour earlier.

“Based upon the description, we believe that they are the same perpetrators,” Staff Sgt. Steve Lorne said.

In a statement sent to Global News via email, Marlborough Mall said the incident is “currently being investigated by Calgary Police Service.”
