Members of the Maskwacis RCMP were called to a home at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday following reports of a 55-year-old man in medical distress following an altercation at a residence.
Efforts were made to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is not believed that this was a random event,” RCMP said. “The RCMP are not currently looking for any further suspects and have identified a person of interest.”
RCMP Major Crimes South have now taken over the investigation with assistance from the Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section and Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday in Edmonton.
