Stampeders’ mascot horse allowed to attend Grey Cup game

TORONTO – CFL officials have given the green light to the Calgary Stampeders’ mascot horse, Quick Six, to attend the 100th Grey Cup game at the Rogers Centre on Sunday.

The CFL, along with organizers at the Rogers Centre, announced Thursday that rider Karyn Drake and her horse would be allowed to stand in the northeast corner of the stadium.

Though they will be allowed to attend the game, the horse will not be allowed to gallop up and down the sidelines, as Calgary tradition goes, due to a lack of space and safety concerns.

Drake said Tuesday that she was told she would not be travelling to Toronto for the game against the Argos due to rules at the Rogers Centre.

The Rogers Centre, a Toronto landmark, has a retractable roof and a 54,000-seat capacity.

But this isn’t the first time Drake has run into issues bringing the Calgary tradition on the road with her. In 2008, a deal was struck with Montreal’s Olympic Stadium just days before the Grey Cup.

Quick Six has been a staple at McMahon Stadium in Calgary for almost seven years.
