A 26-year-old Toronto man is facing 15 charges after police found an explosive device in an east-end home while executing a search warrant in connection with a drug investigation.
Police said officers from 33 Division’s street violence task force attended a property on Scarborough Golf Club Road, south of Lawrence Avenue East, after 7 p.m. Monday.
While executing the search warrant, police were told there was an explosive device in the garage. Officers evacuated the home and surrounding houses while the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive unit (CBRNE) was called in.
The explosive device was recovered and taken to an undisclosed area where it was detonated safely, police said.

Police said they also found two firearms, hundreds of bullets, drugs, and money at the scene.
Robert Rochon has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone
- Possession of proceeds obtained by crime
- Possess any explosive substance to endanger life or cause serious damage to property
- Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Two counts of possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Two counts of possession of a firearm prohibited of restricted weapon obtained by crime
- Two counts of careless storage of a firearm
He was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court Tuesday morning.
