Making art, for artists, that was the task undertaken by some Okanagan sculptors.
They were asked to create the trophy which will be handed out to ever winner of this year’s 6th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards.
The nomination phase of this year’s awards was kicked off Wednesday night with the unveiling of the chosen sculpture from the seven that were submitted by local artists.

“Every single year we have invited artists to submit proposals for the sculpture,” says Sharon McCoubrey, Director of the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan. “So we put it out in the summer and then we look at all the submissions and make a short list.”
The winning sculpture one done entirely of glass by Kelowna resident Bruce Taiji. “It’s a challenge and it’s an honour. The Okanagan is a place I’ve always loved so it’s pretty obvious for me to use that as inspiration for these awards.”
The nomination process for the Okanagan Arts Awards is now officially open.
Members of the public are welcome to take part in the nominations until January 11, 2013.
