Ontario Provincial Police are reminding motorists to slow down as snow continues to blanket roads and highways across the Greater Toronto Area on Monday.

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for many parts of Southern Ontario including Halton – Peel, Toronto and York – Durham.

Those areas are expected to receive an additional 2 to 5 centimetres of snow by the evening.

Police are advising motorists to exercise caution and prepare for poor visibility and icy roads.

“The ramps are really slick. There are advisory speeds for those ramps but even those advisory speeds may be too fast because of the slippery conditions,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

Police are also reminding drivers to stay inside your vehicle if you’re involved in any sort of collision.

“Stay in your vehicle. Call 911 if you’re in a ditch and you can’t get out. If you can get your vehicle moving again, get out of the area because it’s too dangerous. Call the police to let us know what happened,” Schmidt said.

Transportation Delays

Air Canada has advised its passengers of possible delays to certain flights on Monday due to snow and strong winds. Customers wishing to make alternate travel arrangements can do so without penalty, space permitting, using the company’s online rebooking tool.
