If you don’t have a water meter in your home, you are paying more for water this month.
About 22,000 homeowners are getting a catch up bill, as a result of a billing mistake by the City of Calgary.
Bill Meyer watches his utility bill closely and noticed a much higher total on his last statement.
When he called Enmax he was told his water and wastewater charges have been adjusted by around $50.

He thinks the charge is unfair and that he shouldn’t have to pay it.
“I pay my bill every month and just carry on, all of a sudden “oh, why’s the bill so high?”, and that’s what made me notice it right away.”
When the city increased water rates last year, someone forgot to add it to the accounts of everyone paying a flat rate for water. It will mean an extra charge on some customers’ bill.
“On average it’s about $42 for the customers impacted. They’ll also see a five dollar increase on their monthly bill reflecting that rate increase,” says Ian Todd of Enmax. ”
Todd says Enmax and the City of Calgary have apologized to customers affected by the billing mistake, and that payment options will be available if necessary.
