It’s the final countdown to Agribition 2016 and hundreds of ranchers are getting their last minute preparations in order.

The big show begins tomorrow, with dozens of events planned for the week.

Klint Sickler is a rancher at Prairie Hills Gelbvieh from North Dakota. This is his eighth year in attendance.

Sickler said it’s always a push during those final hours before the show.

He’s among the hundreds of ranchers getting their livestock perfect for Monday’s opening. His nine Gelbvieh cows all need to be washed, dried, and groomed.

Sickler said the process takes about an hour per animal.

“Basically you want to present them the best that you can, so you want the animal to have nice straight lines. You want them to look clean,” he said.

There are 450 trade show exhibitors this year and more than 1,500 head of cattle.
Other animals like bison, alpacas, and goats will also be on display.

Corbin St.John from Southey, Sask. will be showcasing his goats at this year’s show. He said there’s still a lot of grooming to be done.

“We clip their hair, make them look pretty, put nail polish on them,” he laughed.

With just one more sleep until the big show, Canadian Western Agribition CEO Chris Lane said everything needs to be in tip-top shape.

“This is the fit and finish day. This is to make sure everyone is in their places and all the systems are working as well as they can,” Lane said.

“All the plumbing and electrical is ready to go and [we’ll] make sure the trade displays have what they need.”
