It might be hard for some to imagine that you will soon be able to have a beer or glass of wine while getting your hair done.
The B.C. government is opening the flood gates, letting alcohol flow at all sorts of businesses unless they operate out of a vehicle or target minors.
Under the old rules, only hospitality, entertainment and beverage sectors could sell alcohol.
The province says barber shops are a good example of businesses that may want to make a little extra money by selling booze.
Lana Tarasewich Runs a barbershop in downtown Kelowna. She’s thought about offering her customers alcohol but feels it would be too much of a hassle. But said the idea is catching on.
“It already has in some shops. They’re offering it to a totally different clientel than our own. Yeah, if it works, it works,” she said.
The province says bookstores are another type of business where serving alcohol might be appropriate. Micheal Neill of Mosaic Books in Kelowna said the idea is appealing but having to apply for a liquor licence and train his staff is a bit of a turn off.
“That might make it just too complicated if there’s too many rules and regulations that we have to be aware of,” said Neill.
