One person dead following house fire in Charleswood

Winnipeg police have confirmed that one person has died after a fire tore through a home at Lynbrook Drive Thursday morning.

One person was sent to the hospital after a fire tore through a Charleswood home early Thursday morning.

Flames and smoke were seen coming from a house in the 200 block of Lynbrook Drive around 2 a.m.

When the Winnipeg Fire Department arrived, they found a person inside of the house. Crews were able to get the person out of the building, but Platoon Chief Tom Piche says he has no further information about their condition.

“We have one lone occupant transported to hospital. [His status is] unknown at this point.”

Piche described seeing flames coming out of the front window and door when he arrived.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire and the arson unit is continuing the investigation.
