With the Edmonton Eskimos in the playoffs, this might not have been the perfect timing for the team’s quarterback to add a new title to his resume but he did. And that title is dad.
“Brooklyn Sloane Reilly. She’s going to be handful there’s no question about it but I accept the challenge,” Mike Reilly shared at Eskimos practice Wednesday.
Mike Reilly and his wife, Emily, welcomed their first baby, a daughter, on Monday night.
“I haven’t slept a lot, part of that is just from excitement, having a new addition to our family. The other part of that is it’s hard to sleep when you have a newborn crying. But my wife did an amazing job.”
Emily and baby Brooklyn are still in hospital but are expected to be released Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Reilly and the Eskimos are headed for Ottawa following Friday’s practice.
“People like to believe that I am tough but I’ve got nothing on her, it was a pretty amazing experience. Two days in, being a dad is awesome. I love it.”

Reilly suffered an upper-body injury late in Edmonton’s 24-21 East Division semifinal win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday. Reilly said Wednesday he’s ready to play in the division final this weekend in Ottawa.
