Remembrance Day 2016: What is open and closed in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — Here’s a list of what is open and closed in Winnipeg this Remembrance Day.

Transportation

Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Remembrance Day.

A moment of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. Transit operators will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence. For route and schedule information, visit Winnipeg Transit or call 311.

Duffy’s and Unicity Taxi will offer free rides to and from Remembrance Day services for veterans. The venue must be located within the City of Winnipeg.

Recycling and garbage collection

There is no recycling, garbage or yard waste collection on Remembrance Day.

The following schedule changes are in effect for the week of Nov. 7, for those customers that normally have collection on Friday

City of Winnipeg facilities and services

All Winnipeg library branches are closed Nov. 11. All leisure centres are closed as well.

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools are closed with the exception of the Pan Am Pool and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex. Pan Am Pool is open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and the Cindy Klassen Reacreation Complex is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 11. Cemetery offices will be closed.

Shopping

CF Polo Park: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Kildonan Place: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
St. Vital Centre: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Grant Park Shopping Centre: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Garden City Shopping Centre: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Most groceries stores will open at 1 p.m. Friday and close at their usual times.

Manitoba Liquor Marts will be operating their usual weekday hours.

Attractions

Assiniboine Park Zoo is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The zoo is also offering all veterans, military personnel and their families free admission until Saturday, Nov. 12.

The Canadian Museum For Human Rights is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for all veterans serving and past members of the Canadian Armed Forces on Remembrance Day and throughout the weekend.

The museum is also encouraging young people to create letters to veterans honouring their courage, service and sacrifice.
