WINNIPEG — Fire crews are busy battling a blaze in the Osborne Village area Monday morning.
Emergency crews were called on scene for reports of a house fire in the 400 block of Wardlaw Avenue around 5 a.m.
When crews arrived the house was full of smoke. Crews had to then fight the fire from the basement because the main floor was deteriorating.

“It was a hard fought fire because of the construction technique of the home,” platoon chief Doug Marin said. “It’s referred to as balloon construction in the walls. The house was built in the early 1900’s so it spread quickly from the basement to the attic.”
No one was home at the time.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
