Young actor wants to make sure no one goes hungry this Christmas

Tanner Saunders may only be 11 years old, but the Maple Ridge resident already knows some families struggle every year, just to put food on the table at Christmas time.

He has taken part in some charity runs in the past, and loves to run with his mom, but when he realized there was no run this time of the year to raise money for the food bank, he decided to step up.

Tanner has organized a run on November 17 in Maple Ridge, and all proceeds will benefit the Friends In Need Food Bank.

He spoke to Global BC about his plans and what he hopes the run will achieve:

The Friends In Need Food Bank currently distributes 700 hampers a month to people in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and the demand is only going to increase with the Christmas season just around the corner.

Tanner says he has gotten a great response from the community so far, but he is still looking for sponsors for the event, volunteers, and runners.

“I’m going to try and get all of my running friends to sign up,” he says.

The Alouette Elementary School student is no stranger to being in front of a film camera, and more than anything he says he loves to act – he just hopes he doesn’t have to make a speech at the run.

“I don’t know why I find it funny, but I get stage fright,” he says, laughing.

The run will take place on November 17 at 10 a.m. at Alouette Elementary School in Maple Ridge.
