The Dixie Chicks have actually been covering Daddy Lessons during their recent tour.

Beyoncé’s Formation tour ended on Oct. 7, which has allowed her extra time to do things like pull off deeply elaborate family Halloween costumes and surprise the CMA Awards audience with a controversial performance that had many people talking on social media.

Many people online compared Beyoncé’s performance to her country-music duet with Sugarland at the 2007 American Music Awards.

The moment did not go unnoticed on Twitter:

Dolly Parton was awarded the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, designed to mark an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in country music.

Actress Lily Tomlin gave a heartfelt introduction to the tribute, which started out with a modern version of Parton’s Jolene delivered by Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Pentatonix.

Reba McEntire took the stage to sing 9 to 5, but missed her cue for the first verse and laughingly apologized. The CMAs performer quickly recovered, saying that catching sight of the legendary Parton in the audience was the reason for her slip.

Kacey Musgraves sang Here You Come Again and Underwood followed with Martina McBride to provide another tribute, singing I Will Always Love You. Nettles and Musgraves joined Underwood and McBride to finish out the song.
