Bus company gets the go ahead to operate across Maritimes

SAINT JOHN – The Maritimes will have a new inter-provincial bus service beginning in December, as Acadian Coach Lines cease operation in the region.

New Brunswick’s Energy and Utility Board (EUB) has authorised Coach Atlantic Transportation Group’s application to maintain bus service in the province.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board approved the group’s application last month.

Coach Atlantic

The Prince Edward Island-based company will operate under the name Tri-Maritime Bus Network.

The Board approved, “in principle” Coach Atlantic’s proposed routes, schedules and fares as well as “the concept of minimum and maximum run frequencies.

Pending the EUB’s final decision, this will clear the last hurdle for Coach Atlantic to go into service on Dec. 1.

“The board approves the concept of minimum and maximum run frequencies,” EUB Secretary Lorraine Legere said in the Board’s written decision. “The specifics regarding the implementation and operation of such a system will be included in the Board’s final decision.”

The EUB said the approval is “subject to a compliance filing” from Coach Atlantic.

Acadian Lines’ parent company, Quebec-based Orleans Group, announced in August it would cut service in the Maritimes.
