In the latest Netflix original series (which will also be available on Netflix Canada, starting Nov. 4), The Crown follows the coronation of Elizabeth  (Claire Foy) and her early days on the throne.

From her at-times-rocky marriage with her husband, Prince Philip (Matt Smith, formerly of Doctor Who), to her political relationship with then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill (John Lithgow), the series goes behind the closed doors of royalty.

Creator Peter Morgan, who’s no stranger to royal history and storytelling (he was the man behind 2006’s The Queen and The Last King of Scotland), masterfully recounts the Queen’s private journey behind the public facade.

Jared Harris (of Mad Men fame) rounds out the cast as Elizabeth’s father, King George VI.
