An Alberta man has found a modern application for some ancient architecture-and some swear by its healing powers.
Jens Steenberg has spent the last decade creating a pyramid, located in Alberta’s foothills near Pincher Creek. He brought in an engineer and local builder to help, but the woodworker completed the finishing work himself.
The structure’s angles are exactly 51.8 degrees, just like the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. It’s 36 square feet and aligned perfectly to the east, with earth mounds to gather the morning sun.
“I knew that I had something fantastic here, because I could feel the energy right through my body,” Steenberg explains.

Part of the power of the pyramids is said to come from the way energy flows. So, Steenberg measured airflow patterns inside the structure, and said the temperature on the ground is exactly the same as 30 feet up at the peak.
He now offers access to the pyramid as a business, attracting yoga and meditation groups, even weddings.
Judy Atkinson, the founder of Circles of Rhythm, often brings drummers to the site.
“Don’t come with great expectations,” she suggests. “Come with an open mind and an open heart and enjoy this beautiful sacred space.”
First-time drummer Tamara Zaleski was moved by her experience.
That is exactly what Steenberg hoped for.
“When I see the people coming out of here and their faces are like the sun…I’m helping them with something and that’s what keeps me going.”
