Two crimes apparently solved with one arrest

VERNON – A Vernon man made an initial court appearance Monday after being arrested late Friday night while allegedly driving a stolen vehicle containing other stolen goods.

Police say those items include candy and toys from youth hockey tournament gift baskets which were taken during a break-in to the Civic Arena earlier Friday.

The vehicle was stolen from a local car dealership on October 14th.

Derek John Hawthorne, 45, is charged with three counts of possessing stolen property and one count of driving while disqualified.
