With just two days to go before the Saskatoon civic election, the latest poll had Don Atchison in the lead in what Mainstreet Research executive vice-president David Valentin calls an “exciting and volatile campaign.”

The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll released Monday morning gives Atchison 32 per cent of decided voters, up two points from the last poll.

Meanwhile, Charlie Clark has jumped to second place at 28 per cent, up seven points.

Support for Kelley Moore has slipped 8 points to 20 per cent of decided voters.

Valentin said it looks like Atchison will be the candidate to beat.

“Don Atchison’s support is rock solid at 82 per cent (of his decided voters), he will be the candidate to beat in this campaign,” Valentin said.

“He has run a skilled, disciplined campaign and is set to collect his base vote. Whether Clark’s campaign can make up the difference in just a few days remains to be seen.”

Devon Hein is at three per cent, and the undecided vote is at 17 per cent.

A second poll also out Monday morning also has Atchison in the lead, although in a much tighter race.

The 650 CKOM/Insightrix Research online poll has Atchison at 28 per cent, followed by Moore at 24 per cent and Clark at 21 per cent.

Another 18 per cent are undecided, with one per cent supporting Hein.

Voters in Saskatoon head to the polls on Oct. 26.
