The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has purchased three pieces of land in Naramata to be used as public park space.
Two of the properties are located adjacent to Naramata Wharf Park, with the third beside Naramata Elementary school.
“The Regional District believes that a healthy built environment promotes healthy living in our communities,” RDOS chair Mark Pendergraft said in a news release. “The recent land purchases and facility use agreement will provide new opportunities to enjoy the outdoor spaces and planned recreation programming in the community.”
The RDOS bought the two parcels near Naramata Wharf Park from the BC Tree Fruit Cooperative for $1.15-million, while School District 67 sold the space by Naramata Elementary for $451,000.
“A facility use agreement was also completed between the regional district and the school district as part of the sale,” Pendergraft said. “The agreement allows for the use of the land and school building for community recreation programs.”
The RDOS approved a parkland acquisition loan to purchase the land by Wharf Park and used parkland acquisition funds to pay for the space by Naramata Elementary.
