Police confirm human head found in Edmonton is linked to Ranfurly homicide

EDMONTON – Edmonton Police are confirming the human remains found in an Edmonton alley Wednesday morning are connected to the human remains discovered in Ranfurly this past weekend. 

“It brings us one step closer to determining the circumstances surrounding this homicide,” said Inspector Jerry Scott with the RCMP’s K-Division Major Crimes Unit during a Friday press conference in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office completed the autopsy Thursday, October 25, on the human remains found in a north-east Edmonton neighbourhood on Wednesday morning. The Medical Examiner confirms the remains found in Edmonton to be the human head which belonged to the murder victim found near Ranfurly, Alberta on October 20, 2012.

“Without getting in to the specifics of the investigation, I don’t know the reasons why the head was in Edmonton and the body was near Vermillion,” explained Inspector Scott.

The name of the deceased, cause and manner of death are not being released at this time. However, investigators say he is an adult male from Alberta in his 50s.

 

“I want to assure the public based on the information we have gathered to date, we believe that this was not a random act of violence.  However, as always, we advise the public to be diligent and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to their local police service,” said Inspector Scott.

The RCMP will continue with the homicide investigation and the EPS will assist where necessary. Further details regarding the ongoing investigation will be provided by the RCMP.
