Premier Brad Wall said suicides in northern Saskatchewan have been a concern for local leaders and the provincial government for a number of years.
Wall said the province has worked with the health region and government ministries to provide better support for the North, but clearly more needs to be done.

The premier made the comments in the legislature after a 10-year-old girl took her own life in Deschambault Lake, about 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
Hers was the latest of four suicides in the region in October.

First Nations officials said last week that there had also been numerous suicide attempts this month.
Wall said there are no words to properly express concern about what might be leading young people to take their own lives.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the recent rash of suicides in northern Saskatchewan is a tragedy.
