Manitobans named to Team Canada for Deutschland Cup

A trio of Manitobans have been chosen to play for Canada at next month’s Deutschland Cup.

Winnipegger Kevin Clark, Morden’s Chay Genoway and Swan River’s Barry Brust will all wear the maple leaf at the international hockey tournament in Germany. All three currently play in Europe.

Clark has four goals and two assists in nine games with Brynas IF Gavle of the Swedish Hockey League. The forward played 160 games with the Manitoba Moose franchise from 2009 to 2013. Clark helped Canada capture the Spengler Cup in 2015.

Genoway has spent the last three years with three different teams in the KHL. The defenceman scored an assist as a Minnesota Wild in his first and only NHL game during the 2011-2012 season.

Brust was selected 73rd overall by the Wild in the 2002 draft. The goalie eventually played 11 games in the NHL with the LA Kings. He has spent the last four seasons in the KHL.

Canada last played in the Deutschland Cup in 2014. The country has won four tournament titles in 17 appearances.

This year’s tournament runs from Nov. 4-6.
