The West Island Montreal Gymnastics Club now has a new head coach and owner, Claude Pelletier.
He will now be in charge of the club, commonly known as Wimgym.
The gym has been in the community for over 40 years and has over 1,000 participants at both the competitive and recreational levels.
Pelletier is a two-time Canadian Olympic gymnastics coach who was at the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Pelletier said.
“It’s a challenge and I’m thrilled to go back in to the gym and work with the young kids.”
He is a recently retired firefighter and has worked on bringing several new courses to the club.
A parkour class will now be offered, as well as a course dedicated to special-needs kids.
In addition, a boys-only class will also be offered.
“It’s fun to see the kids learning every day,” Pelletier said.
“I’m quite busy with the club to start new programs. It’s very challenging for me.”
The club plans to have an open house in January 2017.
