Crews arrived at Nose Hill Park at around 3 p.m. after receiving a call from someone who said they found a bag that appeared to contain some kind of bomb.

Police cordoned off an area near Berkley Gate and 14 Street N.W. on the northeast side of the 11-square-kilometre park.

Bomb techs determined the object was an inert mortar shell.

As of Thursday evening, police said there was no indication where the shell came from.
