Unresponsive inmate found at Saskatoon Correctional Centre declared dead

An investigation into the sudden death of an inmate is underway at Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

At around 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, a 49-year-old man was found unresponsive in a holding cell.

Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said they were notified and attended along with MD Ambulance personnel but the man could not be revived.

The inmate was pronounced dead a short time later. His name has not been released.

The SPS major crime unit is investigating.

The coroner’s office has been notified and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections and Policing will conduct an internal investigation.
