WATCH: When firefighters turned up to a house in Burnaby Friday night, they expected to deal with a fire. What they didn't expect was to find a suspected drug lab. Nadia Stewart reports – Oct 8, 2016

Residents of a house in the 5400-block of Manor Street called 911 around 10 p.m. after a fire broke out in the home.

“Our crews proceeded in and extinguished the fire,” Burnaby Fire Chief Dave Samson said. “During that process they discovered products that were consistent of a clandestine drug lab. So at that point the assistant fire chief on the scene had all crews removed from the building [and] went into a defensive operation.”

Police said the house may have been a lab where chemicals from everyday medications are extracted to make illegal substances.
