The Yellowhead Highway west of the Town of Jasper was shut down Saturday morning following a rock slide.
“The slide has blocked the Yellowhead Highway in both directions. Highway maintenance and emergency personnel are on scene,” Steve Young, a Parks Canada official, said Saturday.
A provincial notification was sent out at 9:50 a.m. via Twitter.
The closure affects the portion of the Yellowhead from the Jasper townsite to the west gate of Jasper National Park towards the B.C. border.
As of 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the highway was reopened to a single lane of alternating traffic.
“The highway is expected to reopen late this afternoon,” Young said.
Further updates will be posted to Alberta 511 and Drive BC.
