Charges laid in connection with accident involving former Olympian

RCMP have laid a charge against a Calgary man for allegedly cutting off a former Olympian who was riding his bike near Springbank.

The collision happened on Sunday Sept. 30, on Township Road 250 when three-time Olympian biathlete Robin Clegg was riding on the road with two other cyclists.

They were all travelling west when a car passed the cyclists, then police say the driver slowed all of a sudden to make a turn.

The riders had to take evasive action. Two were able to avoid it, but Clegg hit the truck and was thrown into the ditch.

The 21-year-old driver from Calgary, who has not been named, has been charged with failing to return to his lane safely after passing. He appears in court in Cochrane on Nov. 23.
