VERNON – An automated teller machine thief has been sentenced after pleading guilty to theft under $5000.
In October 2014, a customer of the main branch of the Bank of Montreal in Vernon used the ATM but forgot to remove his card, leaving the account open.
Glenda Joan Daku, who was next to use the machine, took the opportunity to remove cash from the account with several transactions.
Within an hour of publicly releasing security camera images of the suspect, police started receiving tips identifying Daku.
Daku was sentenced to one day in jail and put on probation for 18 months.
She was also ordered to pay a $100 Victim Surcharge fee.
