Unknown package contents catch fire at Mississauga mail-sorting plant

Police are investigating after a package ignited at the Gateway Postal Sorting Facility, starting a small fire in the Mississauga plant.

Peel Regional Police said it happened around 8 a.m. Friday while the package was under inspection at the facility, located at Dixie Road and Eglinton Avenue.

Emergency crews quickly extinguished the fire and evacuated workers from the immediate area where the package was being inspected.

One woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Peel paramedics say she is in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported.

Police said it’s still unclear what was in the package.
